Jay Kumar

Professional Overview

Jay Kumar is a third-generation hotelier, and this business is in his blood. His family has always possessed a strong entrepreneurial acumen, and growing up around such examples gave him an early taste for the hotel industry and business in general. His grandmother arrived in Los Angeles in the 1970’s as an immigrant from Nairobi, Kenya, where she became a hotel owner, turning the business very quickly into a full-fledged family affair. As early as grade school, Jay and his old brother, Neil both helped to make rooms and doing various jobs around the properties his father and grandmother owned. While working in his family’s hotels, he also focused heavily on his education.

During the recession in 2008-2009, Jay worked many long hours alongside his brother and parents to help ensure the family business didn’t fold, which also added to his strong work ethic. This is the same dedication and passion that enabled him to buy his first home at 22 years of age and his first commercial investment at 24. For Jay Kumar, whether he’s creating jobs, offering mentorships or satisfying investors, he has always understood the value of hard work and how impactful people’s words and actions can be to others.

After his dad took over a branch of the family business, he helped Jay create goals and a course of action for forming his own branch by helping him generate a business model of his own. After working as the general manager for three years at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Jay became the principal of JNK Hotel Management, a position which he still holds to this day. Jay is also listed as the managing director of the venture capital and private equity firm Millennial Investment Group.

He has won several industry awards, including, but not limited to the Torch-Bearer Award & Newcomer of the Year Award from Intercontinental Hotels Group when he was just 17-18 years old. Jay has also led his team to receive the Wyndham franchise award-Best of Wingate in 2017, a hotel JNK Hotel Management still operates. He is a member of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) where he presently represents the Southeast Texas Region as an ambassador for two years and is also a Young Professional Committee member. Jay has previously met with Senator Ted Cruz & Congressman Brian Babin as he travels to Washington, DC biannually to support AAHOA and the hotel industry as an entirety. Jay advocates along with AAHOA to aid in eradicating human trafficking and other major industry-related crimes. Companies Jay represents currently own multiple properties in Southwest Louisiana & Southeast Texas, but he is never too busy to stop looking for new opportunities.
